| | A couple of years ago, one of the largest sandwich producers in Europe contacted BILWINCO. The producer wanted to invest in a new automatic weighing and dosing system for the positioning and spreading of topping on sandwich bread – with the purpose of making the production process far more cost-effective. In 2005, BILWINCO delivered the first two tailor-made systems – and this year, the customer obtained another line.
Sandwich solution filled with advantages
In 2005, BILWINCO delivered two similar systems for the filling of topping on sandwich bread. Each system contains a high product lift for transporting Eurobins to the storage hopper. The vibrator discharges the product into the BILWINCO multihead weigher, type BW118W. The weigher doses the products in high-precision portions into a filling and distribution tool which ensures that the portion is positioned and spread on the sandwich bread. A conveyor quickly feeds and removes the bread slices. Both BILWINCO systems are mobile, making them suitable for various applications in other lines – just as they can be wheeled away from the sandwich line for efficient cleaning. In this way, mobility contributes to maximum hygiene.
New systems increase the efficiency of all lines
The two systems run in the same sandwich line. The first system doses salad products only, whereas the second system doses protein products, for instance tuna fish, chicken and ham. Recently, the sandwich producer has started up another sandwich line – using another two identical systems from BILWINCO.
Expectations were met
The producer tells us that the purpose of investing in the four weighing and packing systems was to achieve a much higher level of automation in the sandwich production – and consequently cut costs. Expectations were indeed fulfilled. The investment has given the producer the following big advantages:
• Substantial salary savings.
• Considerable product savings because of higher levels of precision – thus reducing give-away.
• Less dependence on variable quality of manpower.
• Improved product quality. The topping product is spread more evenly on the sandwiches – making them look much more appetizing in the refrigerated counter.
BILWINCO was chosen for three reasons
When asked why he had chosen BILWINCO as his supplier, the producer explained:
1) BILWINCO took over responsibility and supplied the total system, from A to Z.
2) BILWINCO could deliver the whole system as mobile units. In this way, the units can be wheeled away from the sandwich line for cleaning.
3) The producer has had positive experiences with the people in the BILWINCO service department because they have all been very flexible and eager to solve any problems.
The producer also tells us that many security measures had to be taken in the specific case. BILWINCO was very helpful in solving these problems – and prepared the delivery very carefully. As a result, the system was installed quickly and smoothly. Therefore, shortly after the installation the producer could start production.
