| | A couple of years ago, Lithells AB in Sweden was bought by Atria, the big Finnish group of food companies. Known today under the name of Atria Lithells AB, the company produces a wide variety of food products – especially ready meals, sausages and hamburgers. Their best known trademark is Sibylla.
Temperature of -60o C A year ago, Atria Lithells invested in a new system for the weighing and packaging of deep-frozen meat products in thermo-formed cups (cubed sausages, etc.). The frozen meat products are produced in portions/batches of for instance 200 kg. The products are refrigerated to a temperature of -60o C before they continue to the BILWINCO system. Transport is in a closed conveyor to keep the temperature at a constant, low level.
The weigher sizes up portions of 450 to 3000 g, and a BILWINCO distribution/filling unit then distributes the products in thermo-formed cups. For portions of 450 g, the capacity is 40 portions per minute. The great advantage of batch production is a very short process – ensuring an extremely high product quality.
Flexibility is a must Production manager Sven Åke Axelsson explains: ”We invested in a complete mobile system that included a weigher mounted on a support frame with a mounting/sinking unit. This system gives us unparalleled flexibility. We can remove the whole system from the line and the production room – just as we can lower the weigher to the floor. This means that cleaning and preparation for a new product are extremely convenient and fast.”
”A flexible system that cleans so easily is a prerequisite for efficient handling of short batches. With its mobile and compact weighing and packaging systems, BILWINCO has developed a concept that solves the food producers’ capacity problems – and at the same time ensures maximum hygienic standards and efficient cleaning”, concludes Mr Axelsson.
