| | Fischmarkt Hamburg-Altona GmbH is a medium-sized German company which packs a wide variety of fish and shellfish products for its customers. The products are weighed and packed in bags and cups (thermo-formed and ready-made cups).
Fish and shellfish in several sizes
Frank Kühn, Fischmarkt’s factory manager, explains: ”Until now, we have partly used a linear weigher and partly manually operated table weighers for the weighing of portions from 200 g up to more than 2500 g. However, it was very labour-intensive to weigh the wide range of products in different sizes in high-precision portions – all of them conforming to e-marking standards. The process was slow and inefficient, and the result was not satisfactory.”
”Therefore, we decided to invest in a versatile solution which would make the weighing and packaging process more efficient at a reasonable cost. During a visit at BILWINCO, we made our special needs and requirements known – and since pretests showed that the equipment would meet our performance specifications, we asked BILWINCO to draw up a quotation”.

• Wagon for easy and efficient cleaning of the weighing buckets
• Reject function that gently discharges part portions which cannot be used in combinations within the tolerance range. To ensure correct weighing, the portions are fed onto the weigher again. This feature is very useful in case of frozen products sticking together or products that are difficult to use in combinations.
A good and rational investment
Mr Kühn continues: ”A new test at BILWINCO showed that we could weigh and dose even very large and long products by manually distributing the product. This convinced us, and we placed an order with BILWINCO. We chose a mobile system to achieve the flexibility of using the system in another line. It was important for us to keep the investment at a reasonable price level. Therefore, we chose a multihead weigher which – compared with a linear weigher – could be obtained at a competitive price and at the same time offers the immense advantages of multihead weighing. At the moment, the weigher is operated semi-automatically by means of a foot lever. If the weigher is coupled to a packaging machine at a later date, however, it can be fully automated. The system has now been running for a year and gives us reliable and correct portioning of crabs, shrimps and fish fillets.”
The BILWINCO solution produces portions from 200 to 2500 g and large portions of up to 10 kg by a multi-dump function. The capacity is approx. 20 portions per minute at 1000 g portions.
