| | The Danish company NKT Trådværket - a subsidiary of the international Group NKT Holding A/S - produces nails and screws which are primarily sold on the Danish market. The company produces many kinds of screws in different sizes. The material is steel, brass and aluminium with different surface treatments.
- Our range of screws is so varied and the demand is so great that before the investment, we had to utilize three linear weighing and packaging systems in order to keep up. The demand increased further and we had to extend the production and packing capacity, says Ib-René Therkildsen, head of department at NKT Trådværket.
- We therefore had to invest in new weighing and packing equipment, and we sent an inquiry to BILWINCO who, in the course of time, has delivered several solutions to us. The requirements were as follows: We need a packing line which can handle the entire range of screws and the entire weighing and packing process from A to Z. The weighing speed must be so high that with this line we are able to meet the actual demand. Furthermore, the equipment must have potentialities as it must be able to weigh different types of nails as well as to meet a further increase in demand.
- The new BILWINCO line has been installed long ago so now weighing and packing of screws have been gathered in one line compared to the earlier three lines. The result is a rational and efficient process. We have achieved a more effective product and work flow and thereby also a high capacity. The change from one product/packaging to another is effected within short time which is very important to us as we run many short production batches. Additionally, we have more space now so that the packaging and the equipment for handling it are close to the weighing system. This also facilitates the work flow.
- The packing system is equipped with a PC solution so that it can be controlled by means of both the PC and the operating unit. The advantage of the PC solution is that you can enter a job queue and in this way preprogramme the weighing and packing activities for the rest of the day, concludes Ib-René Therkildsen.
The delivered equipment consists of a BILWINCO combination weigher, a product feeding system, paralleling equipment, a product detector, a PC-solution, a carton erector and a closer. The equipment weighs out screws with lengths from 15 to 130 mm in portions of 100 to 4000 g. The product is packed in six different carton sizes. The capacity is up to 30 portions per minute depending on product and portion size.
